“How much does a Reel cost?” is one of the most common questions businesses ask before investing in video. The honest answer: it depends on what the price includes. Two quotes with the same total can contain completely different services – and two very different totals can deliver almost the same result.
In this article we show which building blocks make up the price of social media content, which costs quotes tend to leave out, and how to compare different models fairly. At the end we list our own prices – because transparency makes the decision easier.
What the price is made of
1. Preparation
Before a camera starts rolling, it has to be clear what will be shown: products, rooms, team, processes, customer situations. The clearer that list, the more efficient the shoot day. Some providers charge for preparation separately, others include it in the day rate, and others expect you to arrive with a finished plan.
2. The shoot
Camera, lighting, sound and time on site. What matters most here is not the equipment but how much usable material a day produces. A well-planned shoot day delivers enough for many posts – a poorly planned one for two.
3. Editing and post-production
Editing is the part people underestimate most. Raw footage only becomes finished Reels through selection, rhythm, colour correction, sound editing and subtitles. For photos it’s selection and retouching. Always ask whether editing is included in the price – and exactly how many videos.
4. Music
Music from the Instagram library works for private accounts; for business accounts it is often restricted. Licensed music costs money. A quote that doesn’t mention music is incomplete.
5. Usage rights
Can you also show the videos on your website, in ads or at a trade fair? Without a time limit? Some quotes look cheap because the usage rights are restricted and every further use costs extra. Get the rights confirmed in writing.
6. Corrections
How many rounds of corrections are included, and what does each additional one cost? Without a clear rule, every change becomes a negotiation.
The three usual models
One-off shoots. You book a date whenever you need something. That’s flexible, but every date brings travel, set-up and coordination again. If you book every month, you pay those fixed costs every month.
An in-house content creator. Sounds like the cheapest solution, but rarely is. On top of the salary come equipment, software, onboarding, holiday and sick cover. And one person is rarely equally good on set, in the edit and in planning.
A production day with a month of material. One day of shooting that produces material for several weeks. The fixed costs occur only once, and you get a fixed price for a fixed result.
Comparing offers fairly
Don’t compare the total – compare the price per finished post, including everything you’d have to pay on top. These questions help:
- How many finished Reels and photos do I get exactly?
- Are editing, subtitles and music included?
- What usage rights do I get, and are they unlimited?
- How many rounds of corrections are included?
- When is delivery, and what happens if it’s late?
- What does travel cost?
If a quote has no clear answer to several of these questions, it isn’t comparable – however low the number is.
